City of Heroes News & Events & Guides
NCSoft’s City of Heroes will be soon relaunched for free under the new name City of Heroes Freedom.
The original City of Heroes was released about 7 years ago. Players will act like comic book heroes in the game, who will fight lots of different villains and protect the Paragon City. In the game, there’re many costumes, items, different superpowers, skills and abilities to use. Further, they can steam up with other characters to fight for the best, even can they create secret headquarters.
Now NCSoft has announced the game to be relaunched later this year under the new name of City of Heroes Freedom in a free-to-play model, which means the new version allows gamers to either play for free or become a VIP with a subscription fee.
Free players will be able to create one or two characters out of 8 classes, they can take part in raids and venture to 45 areas(CoH Influence) in the game, and level up the character to level 50 tops. Of course, there will be more fun if you become a VIP.
The MMOPRG City of Heroes isn’t the only one announced plans to drop their subscription fee, actually the free-to-play model is quite popular lately with online games. Others who also adopted the new business model are Lord of the Rings Online, EverQuest II, Fallen Earth, etc. And even Half-Life creator Valve has been taking actions approaching the free-to-play game model(City of Heroes influence).
